Montclair Hills Real Estate
Montclair Hills real estate runs the gamut from early 20th-century California cottages to palatial mansions. There are also a few condos and apartments in the area. Architectural styles include California, Tudor, Colonial, and a good selection of modern design. The Montclair neighborhood is noted for its mature trees, hilly terrain, and charming, winding streets.
The median home sales price for Montclair in the second quarter of 2014 was $1.15 million, a 34.7 percent increase from the same period in 2013.
Montclair Hills Schools
Children of Montclair real estate owners attend the public schools of the Oakland Unified School District. In fact, some of the district's best-performing schools, such as Thornhill Elementary School and Montera Middle School, are located in Montclair. The district, which has a current enrollment of around 46,000 students, owns and manages 114 schools, including 59 elementary schools, 23 middle schools, and 19 high schools. The East Bay area is also home to several private schools, including The College Preparatory School and Bishop O'Dowd High School.
A variety of public and private higher education options are available throughout the bay area. Nearby to the north, Berkeley is home to the University of California at Berkeley and to the south in Palo Alto is Stanford University.
Montclair Hills Transportation
Getting around Montclair easy, given the neighborhood's small size. The neighborhood is bisected by SR 13 (the Warren Freeway), which connects Montclair to Berkeley in the north. In addition, the Alameda County-Contra Costa Transit District provides public bus transportation between Montclair and Oakland and other parts of the Easy Bay area.
Montclair Hills Parks & Recreation
One of the best things about owning Montclair real estate is the proliferation of parks and green spaces in and around the city. The City of Oakland owns and manages 13 parks within the Montclair neighborhood with facilities that include playgrounds, ball parks, hiking and biking trails, a recreation center, and picnic sites.
Montclair is also within an easy drive of the many state and regional parks in the Bay area, such as Wildcat Canyon Regional Park, the Golden Gate National Park Recreation Area, and the Muir Woods National Monument.
Montclair Hills Shopping & Dining
Montclair residents have plenty of shopping centers and retailers from which to choose. The city is home to more than 200 retailers, including independently-owned stores like The Book Tree, Pelagio Gifts, and Someone's in the Kitchen. There's also a weekly farmer's market.
Montclair real estate owners need never go hungry. The neighborhood offers a diverse selection of restaurants and cafes, with food that ranges from Mexican cuisine to sushi to Italian food. Local favorites include the Montclair Bistro for casual California cuisine, Oni Sushi for Japanese food, and Taqueria Las Compadres for Mexican food.
