Living in an Emeryville Home

Emeryville features a high cost of living in comparison to the rest of the nation and an unemployment rate that is fairly low in comparison to the rest of California. Although the area has a high cost of living, the median home value is actually lower in Emeryville ($290,132) than it is in the rest of the state overall ($349,400). As an important employment center in the San Francisco Bay area, Emeryville experiences a drastic increase in population during business hours as commuters come into the city from the surrounding areas to work.

Emeryville History

Emeryville homes for sale are located in a historically rich area. European settlement of Emeryville and the surrounding area has a long history that began in the late 18th century. However, even before this the area had a strong Native American population and already featured heavy development. Emeryville was incorporated as a town in 1896, and it was named after a "forty-niner" named Joseph Stickney Emery who came to the area during the Gold Rush.
