Having JUST LISTED this absolutely adorable cottage off of Piedmont Ave., it inspired me to create a list of my favorite venues on one of Oakland's best shopping and dining neighborhoods. But first, let me tell you about this little gem with a 96 Walkscore. 4329 Howe is the perfect pied-à-terre, and a great condo alternative. This lovely little home boasts a fabulous floorplan and well-proportioned living and dining rooms with corner fireplace. The country kitchen with classic gas Wedgewood stove flows onto the level-out patio & gardens for evenings of relaxation and play. With a new furnace, updated plumbing, new water main and sewer lateral with compliance certificate, this home is now looking for its perfect mate, could it be you? Stop by one of my open houses at and then head over to Piedmont Ave. for a coffee, lunch, dinner, movie, or just to stroll along and take in the sights! See a list of some of my favorite spots, below.
Here are some of my favorite Piedmont Avenue’s attractions:
Morning: 1. Timeless Coffee. In need of a strong coffee and/or a vegan baked good? Timeless serves up hand roasted coffee, vegan & vegetarian baked goods, and, later in the day, a variety of sumptuous lunch offerings such as chicken pot pie and meatball subs. Plus they have loads of bike parking right out front for anyone on two wheels! 2. La Farine. One of 3 locations in Oakland, La Farine is the perfect place to pick up a mouth-watering morning bun to go with your coffee or the most gorgeous fruit tarts to bring to a dinner party. 3. Ride Oakland. If you’re looking for a friendly, welcoming environment to get a great workout, head over to Ride Oakland. This woman-owned business will have you simultaneously sweating and smiling during one of their fun and friendly spin classes, beginning as early as 5:45am.
Lunch: 4. Geta Sushi. Ready for lunch? Be prepared to wait for a table or spot at the bar—this is one of the tiniest but tastiest and most affordable sushi places in town! 5. Chow Oakland Café Bakery & Market. This is the 5th ‘Chow’ location in the Bay Area and the 2nd one to feature a market. A welcome addition to Piedmont Avenue, I can’t wait to check it out! 6. Piedmont Grocery. This upscale market has a great selection of prepared foods and anything else you could want, plus hands down one of the BEST meat departments in all of Oakland. 7. Fentons Creamery. Who can resist the massive sundaes from Oakland’s most famous ice cream parlor? It was even featured in Pixar's Up!
Afternoon exploring: 8.Philippa Roberts.Philippa, a South African transplant, makes gorgeous jewelry and is happy to advise you on styles when she's there. You’ll find the best gifts in her store! 9. Piedmont Springs. In need of a massage or a good long soak in a private outdoor hot tub? Wander over to Piedmont Springs and prepare to be relaxed in no time. 10. Dr Comics and Mr Games. For anyone who loves Comic books, graphic novels and/or board games, you have to check this place out! 11. Chapel of the Chimes. Designed by renowned architect Julia Morgan, this peaceful sanctuary is an architectural wonder and the perfect place to take a break from shopping while you admire the beauty within. 12. Mountain View Cemetary:For a late afternoon urban hike, you absolutely can't beat the views from up around Millionaire's Row, a city within a city. Frederick Law Olmstead, who designed Central Park in NYC, did an incredible job making sure the Bay Area's finest would have a prime resting place!
Dinner / Evening: 13. The Wolf. Newly opened in what used to be Baywolf Restaurant, The Wolf has been beautifully transformed by Laura Martin Bovard Interiors and is run by the owners of Wood Tavern. On top of its lovely ambiance, the food is divine! 14. Dopo. This ‘cozy trattoria’ features delicious Sicilian food and three daily changing tasting menus. Neighborhood favorite! 15. Piedmont Theater. This quaint theater shows top run independent films and does a Saturday night raffle with prizes from local businesses.
